Why we drift off on audio books

RYAN Tubridy confesses (Irish Independent, February 27) that "the biggest problem I have with the audio book is my mental drifting".
Tubridy shouldn't be surprised, nor feel that he has "concentration issues'' on that account.
It is simply that all readers tend to drift as they listen to audio books -- and for much the same reason that they drift as they try to listen to long monologues by teachers, lecturers, professors, preachers, priests, bishops, politicians, and so on.
