Why should OAPs escape cutback?

George Armstrong claims pensioners have "already paid their dues" (Letters, July 20).

The only difference between pensioners and everyone else is that the former have lived longer -- former prisoners, for example, can be pensioners.

It is unclear why the ill and disabled, along with practically everyone else in receipt of welfare payments, had to take cuts in Budget 2010 while those in receipt of the old-age pension did not.
