With great sadness I followed the story of the Kingston farm in Co Cork. And as I read about the auction of cows and the obliteration of generations of hard work, I applauded Peter Kingston's openness about the situation.

A secret society seems to have sprung up around rural Ireland, one in which whisperings of farm debt are being kept close to the kitchen table.
