Why celebrate awful ambush?

Sir -- As a Northern Protestant I was appalled that the Irish Minister of Defence Tony Killeen attended a commemoration of an IRA ambush in Clare in which six RIC men were murdered 90 years ago.
The fact that it was an ambush says everything. Nothing brave about lying in wait to kill people. One can only imagine the uproar from the Irish Government if unionist politicians commemorated the deaths of Sean South and Fergal O'Hanlon in the Fifties. What hope is there of reconciliation on this island when a Government minister takes part in something so distasteful?
