Why are we just accepting our terrible fate?

The thought of Brian Lenihan and his officials, sitting in the Department of Finance, biting their nails in nervous anticipation of the dire self-assessed income-tax returns, is the last fibre of the last straw that we as a sovereign people are clinging to.
The news, of course, won't be good.
We are like any vanquished people in history; the drumbeat of defeat is all about us, bringing with it echoes of our past.
