Where is the 'Hope'?

I was very taken by Martina Devlin's article (Irish Independent, December 13). It is indeed amazing that the country is not in uproar.
However, as a healthcare chaplain and one who is involved in suicide awareness, I would be approaching things from a slightly different angle.
I have very deep concerns about the emotional state of a lot of our country's citizens. The recent Budget was the last straw for many people. The savage cuts in the area of health and to the carer's allowance is mind-boggling. Nobody minds the Government having to collect its fair share of taxes, but when it hits the most vulnerable it is time to take a stand.
