We vote for party list when we elect MEPs

Mark Aylward does not like the fact that MEPs are replaced by a party list when they stand down from their seat.
I agree that those seeking election to what is now a very powerful parliament should see out the full term; however, there will always be reasons why MEPs cannot continue their duties.
We need a provision to replace MEPs if needed. By-elections for European seats would cost far too much and are simply not practical. Party replacement lists are the norm all across Europe. They are made public before the election and displayed in the polling booth.
