We should all be taking a stand
WE do what we're told. That's us, the Irish. We always do and believe what we're told.
There is no tradition of public discourse in this devastated nation. We just go about like sheep, corralled from one side of this big field called Ireland to the other and back again.
Even as thousands slip into poverty, and many thousands more are effectively deported through economic failure, we seem not to want to become as convulsed by debate about how this society has failed time and again, in a way that is utterly unique in Europe.
