We need action against race hate
MANY people would be struck by the irony of a government official promoting the need for "protection. . . against abusive racial stereotyping" in response to a UK blogger who called on people to submit Irish-bashing jokes to his blog ('Fury over Irish-bashing jokes', Irish Independent, February 15).
It is now 10 years since the Government promised to review the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act, which currently provides next to no protection against abusive racial stereotyping.
The Immigrant Council of Ireland again calls on the Government to honour its commitment to review the act to provide real safeguards against incitement to hatred.
