We must shoulder some of the blame
A Leavy (Letters, February 9) totally avoids the critical point and central thrust of Damien Nelson's valid comment (Letters, February 8).
Excessive borrowing by private citizens played a huge role in bringing us to our economic predicament. To ignore the fact that women themselves contributed to this by spending excessively (in contrast to the more prudent women of yesteryear to whom Mr Nelson referred) is to prevent a critical understanding of all the ways in which we came to this sorry pass.
