We must control our own destiny
According to Eddie Naughton, the greatest threat to Ireland's sovereignty during World War Two came from the enemy within (Letters, October 21).
This assertion is frankly ridiculous and very naive, given that any of the so-called great powers would have invaded Ireland if it suited their own military and political objectives.
Small independent nation states from Latvia to Iceland were violated by the Allies and the Axis whenever it suited them. Ireland was spared this fate purely due to her geographical location.
