"I THINK it's a great pity that in a democracy people don't use the opportunity to put their perspective forward in a different way." That was Mary Harney's quote on the 'Six One News' after protesters threw eggs and cheese at her car.
It is a great pity that in a democracy a government will hold its citizens to ransom by refusing to hold the by-elections that would surely evict them from office.
Later in the bulletin, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey justified the building of the last part of the motorway from Limerick to Galway despite the warnings from local farmers that it would upset a delicate underground cave and river system by saying that "this went through a planning process".
