We don't want return to Aras 'dull years'

For an office that is supposed to be 'above politics', I find it unedifying to see so many current and former politicians scrambling over each other to earn the right to live in the Aras for the next seven years.
The Irish voter must be fed up with the majority of politicians. We seem to be learning that politicians may say they are X, Y or Z party, but they all really belong to the Me Fein party.
Before the last two Presidents, the Aras was seen as a reward for retired politicians, most of whom never really set the world on fire in terms of promoting the Office of the President.
