We all need right to bear arms
IN light of the recent Criminal Justice Bill enabling homeowners to use deadly force against home invaders, is it not time for Ireland to emulate the US in legalising personal possession of handguns in the home?
It is rather difficult for a homeowner to use "deadly force" against an armed intruder when he or she does not own a firearm.
Statistics here in the US show that America's libertarian gun laws have led to a widespread decrease in violent crime rates, and that there are a plethora of US homeowners who would have ended up raped, robbed and murdered in the absence of their constitutional entitlement to bear arms. It is indeed unsurprising that the US has a much lower burglary rate than Western European countries.
