Water charges issue needs to be clarified

Regarding the water rates proposals, in many areas water is still unfit for purpose and people must purchase bottled water for drinking. This is surely unacceptable if rates are to be imposed.

Also, will the meters be above ground with pipes subject to freezing and bursting when we experience weather as we did last December? Who will be responsible for this?

The introduction of meters will cost a great deal and generate employment, but it needs to be truly cost effective without initiating charges that many hard-hit families will struggle to meet.
