Wasting money on golden eagles

I READ that Ireland's new population of golden eagles is in real danger from poisoning, with numbers dwindling from 50 to 20. I would like to know how much this project is costing the Government to run. My guess is tens of thousands.
Surely this money could be better spent, for example on our health service and schools.
Considering we have lived without the golden eagles for nearly 100 years, I don't see the big issue in reintroducing them now.
