Vatican's woeful stance on abuse

DAVID Quinn's article, 'Time to commend Pope for response to abuse' (Irish Independent, February 12) is heroic in its attempt to sidestep the real issues concerning Pope Benedict's responsibility for the deplorable lack of accountability on the part of Ireland's Catholic bishops.
While most people know that the Pope has made numerous pronouncements on child sexual abuse over the years, it is also quite obvious to those who are waiting for results that the Vatican is simply marking time.
The national media, acting on behalf of the majority of decent people in this country, have brought about the only tangible results so far -- namely the reluctant resignations of four bishops.
