lAuf wiedersehen Pope Benedict XVI, Fr Federico Lombardi et al. For economic reasons, the Government has decided to close the Irish embassy in the Vatican and Rome is in a state of shock.
This decision should have been taken decades ago. When allegations of abuse first came to light, all we heard from the Vatican then was a deafening silence.
That silence has continued despite many victims writing to the Vatican requesting the Pope to come to Ireland to hear the horror stories personally.
