Van ban row is a fiasco

Sir -- The week's political row about the use of commercially taxed vehicles for purposes other than business is ludicrous and reminds me of the learner permit debacle two years ago.

It seems to be an attempt to incite public outrage in order to detract attention from more serious issues.

If taken to the letter of the law, it means that owners and users cannot continue to do the normal everyday things they do, while in control of a goods vehicle.
