Uniforms for Holy Communion day

I TALKED to a lady recently who is seriously worried about the cost of Holy Communion for her daughter.

Now, while dressing a child up like a mini-bride at enormous expense may seem like one of the first of the Celtic Tiger excesses, it seems that is not the case.

Parents still feel compelled to dress up their children for this day. Sales of high-priced faux-wedding dresses with all the frills have held up strongly and parents will spend an average of €500 on kitting out their daughters this year, with boys costing half that.
