Unfair attack on gay marriage and non-traditional families

DAVID Quinn's article (Irish Independent, April 8) equating supporting gay marriage to denying the value of motherhood and fatherhood was ill-informed and offensive.

One of the reasons gay people are seeking marriage is that we want to be recognised as loving family groups and to give our children a protected relationship.

The article was a disturbing attack on non-traditional families. There are single-parent families raising their children in a loving environment. Are those families not good enough because they don't comprise a mother and father? And what of adopted children seeking their biological parents? Is adoption devaluing traditional family values too?
