•I'm writing regarding the difficulties I have experienced in becoming a maths teacher in Ireland. I'm an engineer up to master's level and am trying to become a teacher. However, as I do not possess a degree in maths I would have to undertake a refresher course to enable me to qualify for teacher-training in maths.
I think this is unfair as I have spent five years studying mathematics, as well as other maths-related subjects, at a high level.
It is unfair that the skills acquired on an engineering course, such as communication, logical thinking and project management, are not recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland.
