Unemployed can clear roadsides
REGARDING the new proposals whereby some community work will be required of those claiming the dole, I welcome this initiative. It is never good to offer an out-of-work welfare payment for nothing in return.
I suggest that this proposed community work should include a major tidy-up of the approaches to our villages, towns and cities in the greater interests of Irish tourism for 2011 and beyond.
There are currently many ugly and unsightly hedgerows and roadsides across the country. They are neglected, overgrown and littered to the extent of being traffic hazards.
