Undemocratic four-year plan

The Government, whose mandate to run the country is doubtful, has absolutely no mandate to devise a four-year Budget plan that extends beyond its current term in office.
While I do not advocate cuts in social welfare benefits and allowances for those who need them, or who have contributed over a lifetime for them, I agree there are many pensioners worth millions who do not need the state pension or the range of allowances that go with it.
Ironically, I have observed when travelling by train that the poorer pensioners do not generally avail of free long-distance travel as they cannot afford the sundry costs associated with a day out.
