The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights should investigate Pope Benedict's handling of complaints of child abuse by religious and clergy while he was Cardinal Ratzinger and as Pope.
Following the complaints, I said in my capacity as an advocate for the victims that he was the Vatican's cardinal responsible for advising bishops and religious on how to deal with complaints, and cannot act the Pontius Pilate. He must state clearly his role in the handling of the problems.
His recent letter to Irish people provided no clarification on his role as Head of the Congregation for the Faithful, where he dealt with these issues. Instead, his letter tried to blame others.
