Two worlds

• I worked in Dail Eireann as a clerical assistant from 1989 until 2002. If I had been a TD during that time I would be on the pig's back now.

Why, I could even have stayed in private medical care and perhaps I would not today have a three-and-a-half-year-old MRSA-infected wound and a two-year-old fractured femur.

The latter still hurts like hell, despite being operated on again 10 weeks after it was pinned, because, as the doctor kindly told me when I returned to the hospital for a checkup, "you have a screw loose".
