Turkey shoot...Abuse...Rogue trader...Men's burden

Tuesday February 05 2008

- It's time to pull out of this Eurovision farce. Dustin should be put in a bin along with all the other turkeys.

The song judges have served our nation's artistic credibility up on a plate, making us Europe's laughing stock. The thought of someone singing our Eurovison entry with a hand stuck up their backside should bring tears to everyone's eyes.

JOHN BROWN

CLONMANY, CO DONEGAL

- I am disappointed that Cardinal Connell has gone to the High Court to prevent a full investigation of child abuse.

Can anyone tell me who will pay for this foolish excursion?

I fear that Church money will be squandered which could be better spent.

I fully support Archbishop Martin in his efforts to expose the truth.

This is a serious mis-judgment by the Cardinal which will cause further damage to the Church.

DES KERINS

MANOR ROAD, DUBLIN 20

- I read with interest the news that Societe General is planning to dismiss their alleged "rogue trader" Monsieur Jerome Kerviel. This is understandable, given that the gentleman in question allegedly lost them almost €5bn.

Despite this, M Kerviel should consider himself unlucky that he has such an intolerant employer.

After all, if he was working for the HSE in this country he would probably have been promoted.

DR RUAIRI HANLEY

DROGHEDA, CO LOUTH

- Maggie Dominic (Letters, February 4) lists various things women can do "because of the unrelenting struggle of women like Hillary Clinton". Included is "die in war". she omits to mention that only one gender, men, have to register for the Selective Service Register, so a draft can be more readily resumed. Where are the women calling for equality on that issue?
