Treatment away from HSE a tonic

I eventually had a colonoscopy last Thursday in Tralee, Co Kerry, after a nine-month wait.
It was carried out in a private hospital, at the taxpayer's expense, just around the corner from Tralee General (one of Health Minister Mary Harney's 'Centres of Excellence') under the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
So, not only did I have to wait nine months for what is billed as a time-critical procedure but it was done outside the HSE, due to a lack of resources and paid for at an expensive private hospital by the impoverished taxpayer.
