Treating religion as bigotry

The call recently by Noel Ward, deputy head of the teachers' union INTO, for a repeal of Section 37 of the Employment Equality Act, which recognises the rights of religious organisations not to employ individuals whose lifestyles may undermine the ethos of the establishments they run, amounts to an attack on religious freedom.
What is missing from this whole debate is that parents have a civil and human right to educate their children according to their religious beliefs and under the ethos of denominational schools (or otherwise) of their choice.
There should not be total state or church control of schools in the Ireland of today. Parents should decide where and with whom they invest their children's education for the future.
