Treachery and lies on cutbacks

Health cuts hurt the old, sick and the handicapped, we make sure of it. The Haughey doctrine, telling people with all sincerity that services will be protected, while at the same time cutting those services to ribbons, perhaps left one of the most enduring social pockmarks after the depression of the 1980s.
Nothing ever really changes.
Once again the voiceless will bear the brunt of a campaign of cutting to satisfy the invisible protection racket known as the "bond market". Perhaps second only to the hole in our national finances is the honesty deficit in this society.
