Trap must stay

• I must congratulate your writer Vincent Hogan for the quality and good sense of his article under the headline 'Gambler down to last stack of chips' (Irish Independent, October 17) as well as the balanced comments by Steven Reid on the current Trapattoni issue.

It is quite incredible that cynical critics of Trapattoni have gone as far as to demand his departure from Ireland.

The ferocious criticism from these cynics, be they fans or pundits like Johnny Giles or Eamon Dunphy, is both extreme and harmful to the morale and psyche of the Irish squad and Irish international soccer at large.
