Tourism coach drivers forced to park illegally
NOW that the tourist season is in full swing, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the lack of coachparking spaces in our capital. You may notice coaches parked along Kildare Street because the allocated spaces along Nassau Street are occupied.
This is because coachparking spaces on Merrion Square and Wilton Place were taken away, just as they will be soon removed from Mountjoy Square. None of these decisions by Dublin City Council followed consultation with the coach tourism industry.
But what else can we expect from the council that stood by as planning permission was granted for Croke Park, the Aviva Stadium, the Grand Canal Theatre, the O2, and Dublin’s Convention Centre without the provision of a single space to park a coach?
