Time we exposed the cover-up culture
SHOULD legislation be introduced to remove the protection afforded to government officials who knowingly ignore information or complaints brought to their attention by whistleblowers?
The cover-up culture that permeates all the tribunal and abuse cases has to be addressed. While good work has been done to expose the gross injustices of the past we have done very little to eradicate their root cause of these problems.
We rarely hear an official say: "We apologise for making a mistake. We are sorry. What can we do to correct this injustice?" This appears to be a no-go area. No doubt legal opinion would advise against this approach, as it would impinge on business.
