Time to think like grown-ups
•Politics is not a sport. Our elected members are supposedly intelligent people with the necessary skills to govern a democracy. Can someone please inform them politics is not a game and it is time to stop the pointless and relentless sporting analogies -- no matter how much they believe this connects them with the "common man''?
When we wish to hear sporting cliches we listen to John Giles and crew, not Vincent Brown. After the match, be it soccer, Gaelic, football or tiddlywinks, you go back to your normal life, the residual emotions of disappointment or euphoria, depending upon the outcome, will quickly dissipate whatever the outcome.
Staying awake at night worrying about bills, your mortgage repayments, your job security, and whether your children will be forced to join the ongoing mass emigration are not as easily forgotten.
