As a person who has been involved in soccer for nearly 50 years as a player, manager and then administrator who travelled to Poland, I feel the need to express my disgust at the various columns I have read regarding the Irish supporters since I have arrived home.

As did most supporters, I went to Poland for three reasons: firstly, to support the players, who did so well to qualify; secondly, to represent my country abroad; and lastly, and not least, to have a great holiday abroad.

Firstly, did they support the team? While we travelled with hope, not expectation, these hopes were very quickly dashed in the first game against Croatia. However, we remained totally behind our team.
