Time to stand up and be counted

The national outpouring of frustration with politics that accompanied George Lee's departure from the Dail has brought home again that many decent people in this nation are desperate to defy tradition and support more mature politics.
William Butler Yeats poignantly observed that in times of great upheaval "the best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity".
It seems that motives of a base intent are always more likely to succeed in a crude society that mocks the principle of equality and fraternity.
