•Pauline Bleach (August 24) mixes up myth and reality if she thinks Tara offers us a solution to the current mess we have made. It is clear Ireland faces a massive task if it wants to create a society that caters for the needs of everyone, not just the current elite.

To do so requires a monumental change in our attitude to authority and if anyone is expecting the likes of Mr Howlin to deliver that scale of reform from within, going on his track record to date, they are setting themselves up for a disappointment.

The scale of change Ireland requires needs to start from the bottom up as well as from the top down but let's not delude ourselves about some mythical golden Gaelic past. There was no golden age of peace and prosperity in Ireland under the old Gaelic/Brehon system or anything that came after it.
