Time Mr Quinn hit the rich to 'share pain'
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has warned that further savings are required because Ireland is in dire straits. First, I have to say that neither ordinary working people, in this case the teachers, nor the children have any responsibility for the situation. Idiot politicians who believed that neoliberalism served everyone's interests, and a selfish, greedy minority and their various lackeys were.
So Mr Quinn, rather than making teachers and children pay for problems they did not cause, I think other options should be considered. In this regard, we were all told from the beginning of the crisis that we would all have to share the pain of putting things right.
However, it soon became clear that the pain was certainly not being shared by all. There are 33,000 millionaires in Ireland. According to Tom O'Connor of Cork Institute of Technology, their total wealth in 2006 amounted to €156.21bn.
