• Finally, I got a clue from Joe Durcan on RTE's 'Morning Ireland' this week about what was happening at the end of the boom as recession loomed.
The head of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) told us that civil servants would become very agitated during this period if anything was said that "impinged" on the work of their minister.
So, did the ESRI suffer political interference? Did the same thing happen to the Central Bank?
