Andrew Hammond (Irish Independent, October 5) erroneously claims that Hillary Clinton has helped restore America's reputation, leadership and standing in the world. I disagree.

Eight years of Obama's presidency have not done much to bridge the racial chasm between blacks and whites and have not delivered a major contribution to peace in the Middle East.

He has turned Libya into a cauldron of anarchy and inadvertently helped Isil to establish a geopolitical foothold in Syria and Iraq, close to Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories. More importantly, he has brazenly predicated any final agreement between Israelis and Palestinians on whether the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (a stalwart ally in the war against violent extremism and a safe haven in a region of political, ethnic, social and religious upheavals, thanks to the efforts of King Abdullah II) remains stable or not.
