The rebirth of a plane crazy cult

Looking back over the past few years of government decisions, the propping up of incompetent banks, the saving of irresponsible builders and the pumping of money into areas that will never see any return, I was struck by the resemblance to the cargo cults of the Pacific.

During World War Two, on tiny isolated islands, natives saw thousands of planes arrive and depart. The islanders couldn't believe that man was capable of these things so assumed the planes were sent by some deity. Some supplies were given to the native people in exchange for their support.

When the Americans left, the islanders tried to summon back the mighty planes.
