The punishment should fit crime
I would like to ask Mr Justice Liam McKechnie a question. For which of the two murders did he give David Curran a life sentence?
It would appear that if either of the two hard-working men, Pawel or Mariusz, had survived the wanton butchery by Curran, Mr Justice McKechnie would have handed down the same sentence.
Is it the case that if a third person had been murdered by Curran, Mr Justice McKechnie would have handed down the same sentence?
Such concurrent sentences are no deterrent for multiple murder or rape, as there is no actual punishment. In fact, one could argue that it might actually act as an encouragement to the perpetrator to murder a witness to a crime.
