The bonds of language

Sir -- There was a time when all you could expect was another fine gaffe from Bertie upsetting the apple tart with his smoke and daggers.

The hairdressers was where you went for a haircut. Now, it seems, you go to the bank. We all, now, have a working knowledge of subordinated bonds, and the optics are supposed to be getting better.

Just as I was coming to terms with all these new fangled terms we now have the latest -- 'hubris'. I heard it on the radio and now I've seen it in print. It seems to be catching on, and I'm still trying to put it in a sentence. When Bertie said that anyone talking down the economy should commit suicide, was that 'hubris'?
