Is the brouhaha about TDs hiring family members not just a bit over the top? These are essentially personal appointments that require individuals who are trusted by the recruiting politician to provide support.
Personal appointees ought to enable the delivery of the formulation of better legislation and relevant policies, while ensuring that constituents' interests are dealt with.
If these goals are accomplished, the viability of these appointments is demonstrated. If they are not, the regulations governing them need to be revised to make them fit for purpose.
