TDs must lead by example on cuts

The latest revelations about TDs' mobile phone costs raise the obvious question as to why each TD is individually negotiating their own contracts in the first place.

The fact that the Irish State must be the largest purchaser of mobile phones in the country makes me wonder why this obvious area for value and efficiency hasn't been looked at before now.

If we haven't even looked at the benefits of centralised purchasing at the heart of our government then perhaps the forthcoming Budget cuts may not be as difficult as we all fear.
