Taxi drivers will be put off the road

AT the moment the State, as represented by the Taxi Regulator, is spending a large amount of taxpayers' money on a High Court case so that it can deprive me and thousands of my colleagues of our jobs.
In 2011, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 taxi drivers will be forced on to the dole, at a cost of €100m to €140m to the taxpayer, as the result of the nine-year rule imposed by the regulator.
This can be changed at the stroke of a pen, with the benefit of saving the State a large amount of money. The idea of increasing the cost of continuing in the business by €100 a week when most of us are just about surviving is immoral.
