Taking a stand against ageism
Sir -- I have just read Emer O'Kelly's article in which she mentions my ageism case against the BBC. She commented on my views regarding ageism by taking part of an interview I did with The Big Issue magazine completely out of context.
The Big Issue article was about the lack of roles for older women as romantic leads in film. In that interview I was asked about my views on older women and sexuality in this context. My views on older women and the way they are treated once they reach a certain age in TV are well documented; she could have used one of those quotes if she had wanted to represent me and the case I took fairly.
Reading the article it gives the impression that the ageism case I brought against BBC TV had something to do with sex, and in Ms O'Kelly's opinion those views are representative of someone 'planning a career as a porn star'. This is not only inaccurate reporting, but it's deeply offensive and defamatory.
