Suicide debate perplexing

Madam -- I refer to the article written by Christina Reihill (Sunday Independent, February 19, 2012) headed 'When you are suicidal, you need logic, not laments'. There is no doubt that the subject of suicide has had its fair share of discussion recently in the media (and rightly so).
However, to be honest, I am perplexed at the copious opinions concerning the raison d'etres behind people resorting to taking their own lives flooding the public arena.
The fact is, it is not about whether I agree with the sentiments of what others write about suicide, be it Christina Reihill or Eilis O'Hanlon (some of these writers suffer from depression, and many don't). I believe this harrowing epidemic which is rapidly spreading across the nation will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
