Strings attached to Mater decision

Sir -- I share Eamon Gilmore's disappointment with the decision of some Church orders not to meet with Minister Ruairi Quinn to discuss "burden sharing" regarding redress to those who suffered at the hands of the religious orders.
I was equally dismayed, to read that the site "donated" by the Sisters of Mercy for the new National Children's Hospital would only be guaranteed should the Tertiary Paediatric Hospital be built on this site.
It would seem that this caveat by the religious order in question also played a part in ensuring that the build at the Mater proceeds.
