Stout reason to cut price of pint

Madam – It was with no little amusement that I read the contribution of David Smith of Diageo to your business section of October 20. Mr Smith has concerns about the damage caused to the drinks industry by rising prices due to taxation.
I have a suggestion as to how the price could be reduced. Last year Diageo increased the price of a pint by five cent due, in no small way, to increased barley prices. Last year I received €247 per ton for my malting barley. This year I've received €169. Surely a price reduction for the pint, due to decreased input costs, can't be too much to ask!
